We are currently seeking a passionate individual for the position of an Adult Home Cook. In this crucial role, you will be based at the Pleasant Gardens Adult Home, a 26-bed facility which provides 24-hour supervision, personal care, meals, housekeeping, laundry service, transportation, daily recreational activities, and medication management.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

The Adult Home Cook would be responsible for meal preparation, cooking, food ordering, and meal planning. Must possess the ability to follow all menus and fill in substitutions according to exchange list. Be familiar with and follow DOH regulations regarding food, kitchen area and cleanliness of house. Assist in scheduling and planning parties for special events. Must report any maintenance needs or hazardous conditions to Administrator or Maintenance team.


RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Cooking nutritious meals, menu planning, food ordering, and maintaining kitchen sanitation according to DOH guidelines
  • Follow all menus & fill in substitutions according to exchange list, follow diets, examples: gluten free, halaal, kosher style and ensure individual meals if necessary dependent on resident
  • Prepare meals to use in cooking; chopping/peeling/cutting meat
  • Cook utilizing various methods; utensils/grills/ovens
  • Be able to measure ingredients as recipe requires
  • Maintain accurate food inventories
  • Ensure all foods that are not utilized are stored properly
  • Maintain daily log to record what residents ate during mealtimes
  • Ensure food prepared according to menu, notating any occasional substitutions
  • Notify direct supervisor immediately if house or appliances need repair
  • Be familiar with and follow DOH regulations regarding food and general kitchen area
  • Meet with Administrator in setting up appropriate dietary menus for residents
  • Answer telephone in a courteous and professional manner & take appropriate messages
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor


REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency
  • Proven experience as a cook (at least one year experience)
  • Experience working with elderly preferred
  • Physical Requirements: Sits, stands, stoops, squats, walks, and moves intermittently during work hours, may push or pull 15-20 pounds daily, may push or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Training in First Aid and CPR required
  • Successful completion of annual Physical and PPD
  • Ability to follow both verbal and written directions


POSITION RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to Adult Home Administrator

SCHEDULE: Mondays-Fridays 10am-6pm

PAY: $18.50 per hour

LOCATION: Bayport
