Assistant Accountant / Accountant

Park Recruit are delighted to be working in partnership with an innovative, technology-led engineering business based in Cookstown to appoint an experienced Assistant Accountant.

Reporting into senior leadership and working as part of a small finance team, the Assistant Accountant will play a key role in ensuring smooth day-to-day financial operations, supporting cash flow management, and delivering accurate financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process daily sales orders, verify accuracy and raise customer invoices
  • Liaise with sales personnel and support customer query resolution
  • Oversee and process purchase orders within delegated authority levels
  • Process supplier invoices and complete statement reconciliations
  • Work closely with credit control to manage queries and disputes
  • Prepare and submit VAT and relevant statutory returns (including ROI VAT/RCT)
  • Complete timely bank reconciliations
  • Support weekly, monthly and year-end close processes to trial balance
  • Assist with preparation of weekly and monthly management accounts
  • Monitor supplier pricing and product costings to support margin analysis
  • Support financial administration and compliance duties
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of systems, reporting and processes

Essential Criteria

  • Qualified Accounting Technician (ATI or similar) or qualified by experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience within a busy accounts function
  • Strong working knowledge of computerised accounts packages (experience with Xero highly desirable)
  • Experience completing VAT/RCT returns in the Republic of Ireland
  • Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills
  • Excellent communication skills with confidence dealing with customers, suppliers and internal teams
  • Strong organisational skills with high attention to detail
  • Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Desirable

  • Experience within a service-based, engineering or technical environment
  • Experience with Dext
  • Exposure to stock management systems within engineering/manufacturing
