About the Role

We are looking for a detail-oriented Content Updater to support a large-scale academic knowledge enhancement project. Their primary responsibility will be updating existing content within the client’s knowledge or article database for currency (maintain the content updated) and accuracy. This would require a focus on verifying, updating, and maintaining factual and reference information across digital articles and entries and ensuring that all articles remain accurate, current, and relevant (similar to the ongoing updates seen on other platforms such as Wikipedia).

The ideal candidate will have a strong grasp of research methods, fact-checking, and content accuracy, as well as the ability to write and revise content in a clear, consistent, and reader-friendly tone in accordance with the Chicago Manual of Style (CMS), 17th ed. The candidate will also have the ability to work on bibliographic entries as per the 9th edition of the Modern Language Association (MLA) Handbook.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and verify new facts, data, and developments, publication details, and web links from credible and trustworthy internet resources.
  • Review and update content to reflect the most recent information based on structured project instructions.
  • Add new information or corrections as required, ensuring factual accuracy and relevance based on CMS 17th ed. Ensure consistency in the structure and formatting of the updated content to match the existing content.
  • Record the corresponding bibliographic information in MLA 9th ed style.
  • Review existing bibliographic information for obsolete references or broken links and correct accordingly.
  • Review existing database content to identify and update outdated information.
  • Coordinate with editors or leads for clarifications when needed.
  • Do a quality control to validate updates.
  • Record completed updates accurately in the workflow tracker and maintain update logs for version tracking.
  • Suggest and implement improvements in content coverage, clarity, and organization, where required.
  • Ensure that each assigned article is updated with speed and precision, completing all steps within the standard turnaround time of about 45 minutes per article, without compromising accuracy or quality.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field, else proven capability and experience in content writing.
  • 2–4 years of experience in content writing, editing, or fact-checking roles.
  • Proven ability to research and verify information across credible sources.
  • Excellent command of grammar, syntax, and editorial style.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and completeness.
  • Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) or database-driven content environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Wikipedia-style editorial practices or open-source knowledge projects.
  • Experience editing or contributing to encyclopedic or reference content.

Proof of Performance in This Role

  • Completion of assigned content updates as scheduled
  • Measurable improvements in the currency and accuracy of content
  • Adherence to CMS 17th ed and MLA 9th ed guidelines
  • Positive feedback from internal quality reviewers and clients.

Preferred: Immediate Joiners / Less than 30 days
