Freelance Remote Interpreters

CanTalk Canada Inc., a Canadian-based language services provider, is expanding its network of freelance remote interpreters.

We are currently seeking fluent English or French interpreters who also speak one or more of the following languages:

Hungarian | Mandarin | Cantonese | Rohingya | Fuzhounese | Dutch | Inuktitut | Ojibway | Oji-Cree | Twi | Nuer | Malay | Turkish | Creole-Cape Verdean

This is a remote, independent contractor opportunity ideal for professionals seeking flexible work arrangements.

As a Telephone Interpreter, you will provide accurate, real-time interpretation between English or French and your target language. The nature of the calls may involve healthcare, government services, legal, insurance, social services, general business matters and others

Interpreters must demonstrate strong listening skills, cultural awareness, professionalism, and the ability to remain neutral and composed during sensitive or high-pressure calls.

Work Location

This is a remote position. Interpreters work from home or another private location. A quiet, secure environment is essential. Interpreters are encouraged to use note pads, writing tools, glossaries, and dictionaries as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver accurate and complete interpretation while preserving meaning and tone
  • Apply correct grammar, syntax, and terminology in both languages
  • Deliver excellent customer service with clear pronunciation, professional tone, and courteous communication
  • Demonstrate knowledge of protocols and terminology in industries such as Healthcare, Insurance, Finance, and Legal services
  • Remain calm, neutral, and professional during high-pressure or sensitive calls, including emergency (911) situations
  • Follow client instructions and interpretation guidelines consistently

Qualifications and Skills

  • Native or near-native fluency in English or French, plus at least one listed language
  • Excellent verbal communication and comprehension skills
  • Ability to work independently in a quiet, private setting
  • Familiarity with industry-specific terminology and willingness to engage in ongoing training and self-study
  • Ability to remain impartial, focused, and objective throughout calls
  • Ability to follow client's instructions closely
  • Education in languages, interpretation, or a related field is an asset but not required
