Department/College Background
The Department of Health & Human
Performance in the College of Health Professions is
seeking qualified candidates who have a demonstrated record of
success in teaching and professional service in the health, health
education, health promotion, or public health field that are
commensurate with an appointment at the rank of Lecturer I to begin
Fall 2026. The position is a nine-month lecturer position. The
responsibilities include participation in scholarly committees and
taskforces, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in health
education and public health, and performance of other duties
assigned by the department chair. Given that UTRGV is a distributed
campus, faculty will be required to teach in a variety of settings,
incorporating technology and student engaged pedagogies to maximize
student success and may be assigned to teach face-to-face, hybrid
and/or online courses.
Service to the department, college, university, community, and
professional organizations is an integral part of the faculty
member's responsibilities.
UTRGV faculty will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment
to student success and to advancing the university, college and
program mission and be committed to UTRGV's guiding principles

Minimum Qualifications:
An earned masters or doctorate in a health, health
education/promotion, or public health from anaccredited
university.
Discipline Specific Required Qualifications:
Preferred Qualification:
Master's or doctoral degree in health, health education/promotion,
or public health and work experience in the field of study and/or
scholarly record in teaching discipline. Candidates should be
MCHES, CHES or CPH certified or eligible.
Demonstrated active participation in professional organizations,
evidence of contribution to curriculum development, evidence of
participation in outreach and recruitment activities are highly
valued.
Teaching experience, online and in the classroom setting.
Experience with Bright Space or a similar learning management
system and Quality Matters Applying the Quality Matters Rubric
Certificate is preferred.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the
position mayrequire presence at multiple locations throughout the
Rio Grande Valley. Work isperformed primarily in a general office
environment. This position is security sensitiveand thereby subject
to the provisions of the Texas Education Code§51.215. The
retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System
ofTexas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per
week and at least135 days in length. This position has the option
to elect the Optional RetirementProgram (ORP) instead of TRS,
subject to the position being 40 hours per weekand at least 135
days in length.
