Hiring Department Name and Description

The HR Services group provides quality support to all Bell Canada employees and its subsidiaries. These services include payroll administration, HR-related transactions, management of unionized staff transfers, and eligibility for the employee discount program.

Job Duties / Accountabilities

The Payroll Assistant – Support Centre is responsible for delivering excellent customer service while responding to various payroll-related inquiries and redirecting clients when necessary.

They also ensure that the advice and recommendations provided contribute positively to payroll processing efficiency.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Receiving and resolving payroll-related requests from employees and managers via various channels (email, online, chat, or incoming calls)
  • Redirecting requests to the appropriate services or departments when needed
  • Performing analyses that may sometimes be complex
  • Understanding payroll processing and validation timelines
  • Explaining tax slips while complying with laws, government requirements, and collective agreements
  • Responding accurately and with integrity to questions about employee compensation
  • Taking necessary actions to avoid generating additional losses
  • Completing declarations submitted to various government agencies
  • Accurately filling out various documents and performing necessary follow-ups
  • Ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Understanding and coordinating compensation details
  • Clearly and efficiently explaining the various components of payroll for Bell employees and subsidiaries
  • Analyzing various reports and making necessary corrections
  • Understanding and being able to calculate gross to net salary, vacation pay, etc.
  • Maintaining employee satisfaction and trust
  • Analyzing and processing requests from various internal and external sources and justifying discrepancies while respecting service agreements
  • Producing specific reports, tax slips, and related documents for active employees, those on sick leave, and retirees using various applications
  • Interpreting and ensuring compliance with collective agreements and government laws
  • Resolving frontline complaints and unusual or complex situations
  • Negotiating reimbursement agreements with employees who received overpayments

Essential Qualifications / Competencies

  • Knowledge of payroll compliance legislation
  • General payroll knowledge (understanding and ability to explain various payroll laws, pay stubs, tax slips, etc.)
  • Experience working in a customer service environment
  • Advanced proficiency in French and English, with no restrictions, as we serve all of Canada
  • Strong organizational, planning, priority management, and time management skills
  • Demonstrated integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism
  • Recognized ability to work independently and as part of a team as needed
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • High attention to detail to ensure accuracy of information for clients
  • Ability to identify obstacles, take appropriate actions, show initiative and judgment, and propose process improvement solutions
  • Ability to work and adapt in a changing environment

Preferred Qualifications / Competencies

  • Minimum of one year of work experience in a high-volume call center environment
  • Completion or near completion of training or equivalent from the Canadian Payroll Association (CPA)
  • Experience in time management (time administrator in SAP)
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables)
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Word
  • Knowledge of SAP / ADP-Workforce Now / Dayforce

Working Conditions
  • Available schedule: 7.5 hours between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
  • Occasional overtime may be required
  • Possibility of remote work


Adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
