Northeast Harbor Golf Club is seeking a motivated Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to serve as the second-in-command and future day-to-day operational lead at our historic coastal Maine golf course.
Founded in 1895 , NEHGC is an 18-hole facility featuring original designs by Arthur Lockwood (1916) and Herbert Strong (1925) . Though measuring just 5,602 yards , the course provides a strategic challenge with undulating fairways and small greens. Once a hidden gem, the club has seen increased play and continues to invest in long-term course improvements.
Position SummaryThe Assistant Superintendent will work closely with the Superintendent and Head Golf Professional and will play a central role in daily maintenance operations, staff supervision, and agronomic programs.
In the 2027 season, the Assistant Superintendent is expected to fully manage day-to-day golf course operations while the Superintendent oversees a full irrigation system installation , offering a rare opportunity to lead during a major capital project with mentorship and support.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with planning and supervision of daily maintenance operations
- Lead crews and manage operations in the Superintendent’s absence
- Apply fertilizers and pesticides to greens and fairways
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot irrigation systems
- Monitor turf conditions and assist with agronomic decision-making
- Assist with renovation, construction, and capital improvement projects
- Recently completed pond enlargement (0.3 ac → 0.9 ac) to serve as irrigation water source
- Full irrigation system replacement in 2027 , including HDPE piping, two-wire control, and installation by National Golf Sprinkler
- Ongoing tee rebuilds, frost-heave repairs, and bunker relocations
- Degree in Turfgrass Management or related field preferred
- 2–4+ years of golf course maintenance experience
- Maine pesticide applicator license (or ability to obtain)
- Strong leadership skills and desire to grow professionally
