Senior Site WHS Manager, Amazon North America Customer Fulfillment

Overview

At Amazon, we prioritize health, safety, and well‑being above all else. Amazon is seeking an experienced and innovative Senior Site Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Manager to join our team. In this position, you will partner with the site level operations team for your designated site to execute company WHS policies and ensure compliance with all applicable local and regional regulations. Leveraging lean principles and Kaizen events, you will lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce conditional and ergonomic risk in Amazon’s processes, ensuring a safe and healthful working environment for our associates.

In this role, you will demonstrate the ability to build trust and confidence with cross‑functional operations teams and influence change through comprehensive risk assessments and safety data analysis. According to your role, you must be an effective communicator, instruct and train operations leadership and site WHS professionals in company EHS policies, and assist regional teams in incorporating our safety standards at their sites.

As a senior leader in the WHS organization, you will also be responsible for judging and assessing safety talent and selecting appropriate bench strength for current and future business needs.

Responsibilities
  • Act as SME of local/regional regulations and company WHS policy.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to ensure compliance with all applicable Amazon Safety Policies.
  • Measure site performance against published requirements in safety policies and identify corrective plans for deficiencies.
  • Ensure safety record keeping and data integrity and provide Operations with accurate reporting and metrics to support business safety initiatives.
  • Deliver on‑time and quality projects to Operations.
  • Deep‑dive into safety metrics and review incident trends weekly and monthly to justify allocation of resources where risk is highest.
  • Propose action plans based on trends to senior leadership on site.
  • Audit record‑keeping practices and Global Safety Database entries for compliance with global safety standards and local regulations.
  • Audit workplace organization and associate behaviors to ensure accurate and consistent training, auditing, and scoring methods.
  • Manage and mentor the Safety Managers and Safety Associates at your site.
  • Engage Injury Prevention Specialists and site leadership to drive long‑term strategic actions for incident reduction.
  • Perform targeted Kaizen events in partnership with Operations based on identified task risks (force, repetition, awkward postures).
  • Ensure site leadership and associates are trained and knowledgeable of their responsibilities under each policy.
  • Audit the quality, delivery (including trainer qualifications), and effectiveness of all required safety training.
  • Review effectiveness of deployed safety tools and revise for continual improvement.
  • Partner with corporate and regional field safety personnel to leverage global safety and environmental best practices into NA network standards.
Additional Job Elements
  • Lift up to 49 pounds and frequently push, pull, squat, bend, and reach.
  • Stand or walk for up to 12 hours during shifts.
  • Work in an environment where noise level varies.
  • Work in an environment subject to variable temperatures and weather (delivery stations include outside loading departments).
  • Continuously climb and descend stairs (applies to sites with stairs).
  • Maintain effective care delivery in emergencies and assist emergency response at the site.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 7+ years of increasing responsibilities in safety and/or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, or service operations, or relevant experience applicable to the role.
  • 7+ years of increasing responsibilities in people and performance management.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment.
  • Willingness to work a variety of shifts, including nights and weekends, as required to support direct reports and site needs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Certified Safety Professional preferred.
  • Experience in a fast‑paced, dynamic organization.
  • Interest in long‑term career development through assignments in multiple FCs across the nation.
  • Prior experience in a management development training program.
  • Track record of effectively managing a safety operation comprising both salaried and hourly staff.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing others into higher levels of responsibility in an organization.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort interfacing with Directors and VPs.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Certification Requirement

Those that do not have an adult First Aid, CPR, AED certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross must obtain it within three weeks of the start date.

Salary

USA, CA, Desert Hot Springs – 149,600.00 – 202,400.00 USD annually.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
