Position Overview:

The successful candidate would manage all shipping and receiving aswell as inventory levels. In this role you will be responsible in maintaining accurate and timely management of all items procured, supplied to, and delivered by VETS Sheet Metal.

Additionally, there would be some seasonal building maintenance tasks (snow removal and yard maintenance) and shop support as needed. The successful candidate is a multi-talented self-starter and team player who communicates well and can stay organized and focused. This individual will have mechanical aptitude or trade and/or construction experience. Ideally you are comfortable and competent using a computer, have a clean valid Class 5 Driver's license, valid CSTS and are a certified forklift operator. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain an excellent safety record.
  • To manage and maintain all paperwork and computer files associated with labeling, shipping, receiving, inventory control, and stores.
  • Overseeing incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness and conditions of shipment.
  • Inspecting incoming materials and notifying appropriate staff of potential quality issues
  • Ensuring the shipping area and Tool watch area is always organized and clean.
  • Maintaining and organizing adequate shop supplies under shop foreman direction.
  • Reporting damaged items as per SOP
  • Arrange for pickup and delivery of incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Gets formal quotes as requested for inbound and outbound shipments.
  • Make local pickups and deliveries when necessary.
  • Load and unload courier trucks.
  • Able to operate forklift and telehandler.
  • Package shipments durable to withstand shipping damage.
  • Organize shop supplies and company tools for pickup/use.
  • Ensure “shop” vehicles are clean and presentable and safe to use.
  • Must have good computer and organizational skills and strive for excellence.
  • Help all VSM divisions with shipping and receiving related tasks.
  • Signing in and Issue out tools to employees /Update tool watch.
  • Tool watch and barcode any new tools and put into circulation.
  • Inspect and test returned tools and confirm in good operating condition.
  • Perform regular Tool watch inventory checks quarterly.
  • Repair any small tools with issues/Remove tools from inventory as needed.
  • Coordinate any tool/equipment repairs that need to be done externally.
  • Track servicing of large tools and equipment Ie. Forklifts, welders, lifts, overhead cranes.
  • Track maintenance/perform oil changes on all welders and ensure they are returned in good condition c/w all accessories.
  • Complete transfer of tools from one project to another in timely fashion and assist with items being returned.
  • Gather up tool requests and prep for pickup and delivery to site.

Qualifications:

  • Strong experience and knowledge of shipping procedures & inventory control.
  • Excellent communication - written and verbal.
  • Forklift trained/ Telehandler trained.
  • Overhead crane training.
  • Load Securement Training.
  • Trade knowledge and mechanical aptitude.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of various tools and equipment used in industry.
  • Must have a clean Drivers Abstract.
  • Be comfortable driving 1 ton trucks and experienced with towing a trailer.
  • Knowledge of the safety, legal and handling procedures of goods.
  • Mechanical aptitude to identify material and equipment and perform inspection of received material and equipment for damage.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and take orders.
  • Ability to efficiently coordinate shipping and receiving of goods with shop and field workers of the company.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift up to [weight, e.g., 50 lbs] and stand for extended periods.
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
